Created on 18/06/1964 as a replacement of the former OCIRU, the OCIBU is since 06/06/1992 a mixed company whose shareholders are the State of Burundi, the planters, the members of the industry of the transformation of the coffee, the tradesman of the coffee, the private exporters, The agronomic research institute as well as certain members of the financial sector of whom the BCB.

THE OCIBU works as a regulator the main mission of which is to promote the cultivation of coffee by coordinating the activities of the coffee field. This last one consists by the planters, the tradesman/intermediaries of the not yet transformed coffee, the companies of Management of Wash "Sogestals" (they are 6 among which 5 are mixed and 1 completely private : KAYANZA, KIRIMIRO, KIRUNDO / MUYINGA, NGOZI, MUMIRWA and SONICOFF), the Companies of deparchage (there is 3 there among which 1 mixed and 2 having totally private capital: SODECO, SONICOFF and SIVCA) as well as the Burundian Association of the Exporters of Coffee"ABEC".

After the picking, modern methods of conversion are used by the coffee field (depulpage, wash, fermentation, drying, etc.) to produce some "green" coffee or "trader" ready to be exported.

To export, bids are organized by Ocibu Wednesdays from 11 a.m and exporters put themselves in competition to acquire certain number of lots of coffee.

The roasted coffee which we find on sale on the local market is distributed by a cell of the Economic Management of the OCIBU called PCBC (Propaganda for the Consumption of the Good Coffee).

THE OCIBU is a shareholder in several banks including our where it holds 2.03 %.

In its turn, BCB is a part of the shareholding of the Service with a total of 2,94 %.
